How to Invite Members to Your Church Group

Last updated: February 20, 2026

Bringing Your People Into Flock

A group without people is just an empty room. Flock gives you three easy ways to invite members, so you can pick whatever works best for your group.

Every invitation method lets members sign up with Google or email — whichever they prefer. And every member gets full access to the Prayer Wall, events, chat, attendance, and everything else in Flock from the moment they join.

Method 1: Email Invitation

Best for: Inviting specific people whose email addresses you have.

How It Works

  1. Open your group in the Flock app.
  2. Navigate to the Roster tab.
  3. Tap "Invite Member."
  4. Enter the person's email address.
  5. Tap Send.

Flock sends them a personalized email invitation with a link to join your group. When they tap the link, they are guided through creating an account (or signing in if they already have one) and are automatically added to your group.

Tips for Email Invitations

  • Send invitations before your next meeting so people have time to set up their account.
  • Use the email address they check regularly — not their work email if they only check it on weekdays.
  • Follow up in person. A quick "Hey, I sent you a Flock invite — let me know if you need help setting it up" goes a long way.

Method 2: Join Code

Best for: Sharing at a group meeting, texting to multiple people, or posting on a screen.

How It Works

  1. Open your group settings or invitation screen.
  2. Find the join code — a short, easy-to-type code unique to your group.
  3. Share the code however you like — say it out loud, text it, write it on a whiteboard, or put it on a slide.

When a member opens the Flock app, they can enter the join code to find and join your group instantly.

Tips for Join Codes

  • Great for in-person moments. At the start of a meeting, put the join code on screen and say, "If you haven't joined our Flock group yet, just type in this code."
  • Text it to the group. If your group has an existing text thread or GroupMe, send the join code there for easy access.
  • Codes are reusable. The same code works for anyone, so you can share it as many times as you need.

Method 3: Direct Link

Best for: Sharing on social media, in a church bulletin, or via any messaging platform.

How It Works

  1. Open your group's invitation settings.
  2. Copy the direct link — a URL that leads straight to your group.
  3. Share the link anywhere: text message, email, church website, bulletin, social media, or a QR code.

When someone taps the link, they are taken to a page where they can sign up or sign in and join your group in one step.

Tips for Direct Links

  • Permanent and shareable. Unlike a one-time email, the link stays valid and can be shared repeatedly.
  • QR code friendly. Print the link as a QR code on your church bulletin or event flyer. Members can scan with their phone camera and go straight to your group.
  • Works on any platform. Share the link in a Facebook group, church Slack, a text message, or even a printed handout.

What Members See When They Join

When someone accepts your invitation, here is what happens:

  1. They create a Flock account (or sign in if they have one).
  2. They are added to your group automatically.
  3. They land on your group's home screen where they can see the Prayer Wall, upcoming events, and chat.
  4. They can start participating right away — submit a prayer request, RSVP for an event, or say hello in chat.

New members see everything from the moment they join. There is no waiting period, no approval step (unless your organization has set one up), and no setup required on their end.

Adding Members Who Are Not Tech-Savvy

Not everyone is comfortable with apps. For members who have not downloaded Flock yet, you have a couple of options:

Placeholder members. You can add a "placeholder" member to your roster with just a name and optional contact info. This lets you track their attendance and keep them on your radar even before they join the app. When they do eventually join, they can claim their placeholder, and all their attendance history transfers to their real account.

Help them at the meeting. Set aside two minutes at your next gathering to walk people through downloading the app and entering the join code. Most people just need a little encouragement to get started.
